Helen Bradley MBE British (1900 - 1979)
Helen Bradley MBE Helen Bradley was Born on the 20th November 1900 in Lees near Oldham, Lancashire. She famously started painting late in life at the age of 65, her background was mainly in jewellery and embroidery, her impetus for starting to paint was to document for her Grand Daughter what life was like when she was a little girl. Her painting must be studied to take in all that is happening in them, often there are so many stories and sub stories that the titles of the paintings can be found in dispute. Helen Bradley’s first exhibition was held at the Saddleworth Art Society, which led ultimately to a major sell out show in California, America. Her work is now more in demand than ever and a new auction price record was achieved in 2000 for one of her oil paintings.
