David Hockney Biography
|
|
David Hockney was born in Bradford, Yorkshire
he trained there and at the Royal College of Art in London. He won it’s
Gold medal and other awards in 1961, and quickly became famous as a
leading figure in the Pop art movement and had his first solo show, the
first of many, in London in 1963. A retrospective was shown in London in
1970 and went on to Hanover and Rotterdam.
In 1974 he had a
prestigious solo exhibition in Paris. His talent as a draughtsman was
patent in the beginning of the 1960’s when he produced book
illustrations and five individual etchings.
His etchings
and drawings are among the deftest of this century; posterity may well
acclaim him the greatest of modern portraitists.
