John Bratby Biography

John Bratby's work has seen major renewed interest in recent years, this
is due to new biography's on his life and work by very highly reputable
writers, high quality pieces being readily available and interest from
major collectors such as Charles Saatchi. Bratby studied at Kingston
College from 1948-1950, then he went to the Royal College of Art from
1951 -1954, he would return to the Royal College to teach the new crop
of emerging talent three years later. Bratby was best known for his
work in the Kitchen sink school, this movement involved it's proponents
depicting images of the working class lifestyle, poetically Bratby's
auction record for an oil painting was reached on a painting of a
kitchen sink. The individualistic style of Bratby makes his works
instantly recognisable and sets them apart from all others in their
locality.
