John Hoyland Biography

The chief exponent of a style of abstraction associated with the
theory’s of the American critic Clement Greenberg. His paintings are
done in a rich vein of colour usually utilising simple forms such as
triangles or other quadrilaterals. Two of his paintings were included in
the 2002 summer show at the Royal Academy of Art in London but to many
peoples dismay were not for sale.
John Hoyland is the Head teacher of painting at
the Royal Academy of Art, where he guides future generations of artists
to the pinnacles he has reached.
