Pablo Picasso

During 1945 and 1951 Picasso produced hundreds of Lithographs both singular and in suites, the artist had experimented before this period with lithography but focussed his intensity on this medium none more so than during this period of his life, he enjoyed the art of print making because he felt it was a natural bridge between his drawings and his paintings. Picasso was a prolific worker producing in the region of 250,000 pieces of art during his lifetime. It is thought that Picasso’s interest in Lithography stems from the time he spent working in a studio at the the home of Fernand Mourlot during 1945/46, Mourlot being a famous printmaker himself. Picasso produced 855 Lithographs in his life time, the most comprehensive collection being found at the first Picasso Museum in Germany The Graphikmuseum Pablo Picasso Munster.
