Patrick Caulfield RA 

Patrick Caulfield was born in South Acton, London in 1936 his parents were both born in Bolton, Lancashire.  In 1960 he started studying at the royal college of art, he was one year behind David Hockney, RB Kitaj, Allen Jones and Derek Boshier.  In August 1981 Caulfield's first major retrospective took place at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.  His paintings in the Pop art style are among the best of his generation, inspired early on in his life by Mondrian, Edward Hopper, Rothko, Pollock and De Kooning.

Caulfield is renowned for his work in the Pop Art movement. He has enjoyed international praise and respect for his work as a painter and printmaker. In the eighties and early nineties there were major retrospectives of his work at the Tate Gallery and the Serpentine Gallery.
