Victor Vasarely Hungarian / French (1908 - 1997)
Victor Vasarely Victor Vasarely’s motto was "Art for all", he achieved this through the media of prints, Lithographs and Ltd edition runs. Widely regarded as the father of Op Art, there’s no denying his place among the great names of 20th Century Artists. During the 60’s and 70’s his art became part of popular culture, despite his meteoric rise in fame as time went by he still insisted that his work was accessible to people, he achieved this by overseeing the construction of many centres where his work could be viewed by every one and not just the social elite. There is a Museum in Gordes, which was constructed in 1970, and in 1976 he saw the construction of the Vasarely foundation near Aix-en-Provence. Another Vasarely Centre is in his Hungarian Birthplace Pecs and New York has a Vasarely Centre also. The break through brought by his "Kinetic" experiments surface into a world of unending possibilities, way beyond computers, marking an era in the history of Art.
